The Grrreat Recession

~We are all faced with a series of great opportunities brilliantly disguised as impossible situations~ Charles R. Swindoll

It's hard to see the big picture now, but could the Great Recession be indeed, a great recession?  Now, I'm not trying to minimize the suffering of millions that lost their jobs, homes, etc, during this crisis.  These economic pains continue to drill us, but pain and poverty can be great tools for building innovation as comfort can sometimes be an obstruction to unlocking the imagination.  Overcoming seemingly impossible challenges is what creates the world's wonders.

While the economy is stalled on the side of the road to recovery, it's a good opportunity to reflect on how the country coped during the Great Depression.  When I think about my grandparents' generation, I'm amazed by their integrity and strength.  I believe the Great Depression may have influenced these qualities as character is usually built during times of challenge rather than success. I didn't know my great-grandparents well, but I imagine when they lost everything, they worked hard at investing in their children; instilling qualities that would help them to be successful in the future. And of course we all know what happened, our grandparents' generation changed the world and became one of the greatest in history.

This great recession has certainly stripped us of our things, but our exposed souls can now be clothed in the truth of what's important in life.  Our generation has an incredible responsibility to focus more now on investing in our children who face tremendous challenges ahead.  We have an obligation to provide them with the tools and qualities required to continue rebuilding our country.  We are possibly raising the next great generation like our great-grandparents did and hopefully, our children will be courageous enough to change the world, too.
